The Alchemist Lullaby by Richie Ares

If I could become
the properties of water
I would descend from your eyes
my darling
kiss your cheek
and comfort you
in times of need
You could splash me on your forehead
when you're sick
and wash away your troubles
when you're weak
weary, distressed
gladly, I would fight the dirt,
blood,
from your worn hands.
Oh, if only I
were of the properties
of
water...

You would need me...

And if I could become
the properties of air
I would fill your lungs,
your heart, your blood,
I would give you life
in every word
you speak
and every song
you sing
Fueling you
with my neverending efforts
to bring you something more than
flesh and bone
could ever offer.
Oh, if only
if only!
If only I
were of the properties
of
air...

You would need me...

  1. Dude, this is beautiful, it's got the same elements (no pun intended) that i fell in love with in Luke's elemental poem. But this deffinitely has it's own specific richie feel to it. You read it and feel deeply loved and longed for, girls are gonna love it, haha. It's like twilight in poetry form, haha. Just messin.

But seriously, it's got this feeling of love wrapped up in a terrible sense of heartbreak, due to each stanza's end. The "you would need me" line just breaks your heart.

    Love it.

This makes me miss reading eachothers work and writing together. I'm stoked for things to come.

    Peace and Blessings.

  2. roar.

you are a poet in the way i shall never be richie and it turns my heart green with envy... this is pure beauty. and again...deep. :P hahahahahaha just read billy's part about twilight.

let me just say that it's quite a sad poem...erm. hm... like. it's not all romanticy and ooeygooeymushygook. it's just honest. i really feel like that's the voice. this almost feels like it should be the lamentation.

but i love it. it's pure. well done.

  3. I really like how you used elements that we as humans need to survive. I can see this as a man wanting to be what his lover needs, but i also see this as God being the romancer to us all. I need Him to survive. I need Him every single day. But sometimes, I'm human and forget this. I walk around doing things myself without even considering or consulting God. I hear this as the cry of His heart for His beloved. The way He wants to fight for us, comfort us, strengthen us, encourage us, and love on us.

This is a beautiful poem, I also love the image you used, did you make it??
