I'm Afraid Pencil and Paper Can't Quite Express The Truth by Richie Ares

Hello, dear friend
I write to you again.
This time to tell you how you've been
on and off my mind,
like a wraith
moving through time.
Drifting in and out of my head,
I stand in this nostalgic mess.

Here I confide,
and I must confess,
how I curse this concealed conflict.
I silently cry out,
calling for you.
Yet you continue to keep
that clinkety clank of cups
clashing in cheers of your
callous comraderie...
Congratulations..

Keep it to yourself though, please
because unfortunately

I can't partake.

In what seems to be an ignorant absence
I have found myself quite alone.
It's sad how the arms of Loneliness have shown
your arms to be insufficient and outgrown
(As they reach to pull me into the steps that only the closest of friends may dance)

So,
Tell me.
Where have you been?
For a best friend should never,
by Loneliness,
be bested.

This letter,
signed in pen,
and bound by the ties of friendship tested.

"The end.
A stranger,
Your brother,
Your friend."

  1. wow richie. just wow. elegant. deep. beautifully written. d)all of the above.

your style is INCREDIBLE. and even tho it is a tad depressing and lonesome, it is so...good. :P there are so many "englishy" things i could say about this, but i'll refrain.

all i can say is God is the bestest friend you'll ever have. honestly. not clichely. He's never let me down. never will.

He won't ever leave you lonely, longing, or vacant. He always fills. He's just freaking awesome like that. :D

I loved the alliteration in that. Alliteration is my favourite.

But anyway, I really enjoyed this poem. Losing a friendship is one of the hardest things in life to go through, and this piece of writing truly describes the feeling. I agree that it's written quite elegantly, but it still retains that quality of being quite personal that one would expect from a friend - however near the end the friendship is.

All in all, I give a thumbs up. I enjoy your writing style.

  3. Alliterations, and again, honesty. It drips with the honest truth that you want to get across. And I can completely relate to this in certain situations of my life...you expressed it much better than I ever could.

    Bravo.
